My 5-year-old had, for the first time, cold sores including a fever 2 years ago after her first visit to the dentist.
Reason: the dentist pushed her lower lip down. My daughter found that unpleasant and didn't want to be touched with the rubber glove, as she told me afterward.
This morning I see that her lip is turning red and little blisters are appearing.
For a moment I couldn't make sense of it, since we hadn't been to the dentist.
Then it became clear to me. My daughter watched a children's show yesterday about cavities and dental treatments.
She apparently experienced the treatment scenes vicariously.
No virus, no contagion, simply a "mental movie" and the track of being touched at the mouth with a latex glove.

Now we could think about how we might resolve this dormant conflict for your little girl?
You could perhaps give her a latex glove as a gift and play various things with it together. For example, filling it with water, squeezing it, and teasing Dad a little ... stress turns into something fun ...
Or you go to the dentist together in your minds, and he virtually asks whether he should work with or without gloves? ... compulsion turns into a decision of her own.
There are so many possibilities!
